Every several years into the badlands of Utah, an unusual occurrence happens, under the ideal conditions, turning the landscape into a colored carpet of scorpionweed and beeplant.
The 3rd picture is curious. I assume these plants don't need a lot of water, but what they need, they require, period. And anything else which may grow there needs at the very least a tad bit more. Therefore if the water availability a couple of inches over drops just beneath the threshold, then we do not get any plants there after all.
